“This is Halloween, Everybody make a Scene”

Halloween is my favorite time of year.  The children get pretty excited too.

Our theme for Halloween includes lots of orange and black, tons of crafts and activities for all ages.  Below are some of the activities I would like to share with you.

Pumpkin planting!

This is my favorite thing to do with the kids.

All you need is one small pumpkin, potting soil and water.  I carve out the pumpkins, the kids put in  the potting soil and then they add water.  A few weeks later, you have grown your own pumpkin plant.

The kids really enjoy watching it grow!

Leaf Paintings

All you need is printer paper, orange and brown paint, and a fallen leaf from a tree.

I let the kids go on a leaf hunt and find the leaves.  I then tape them to the printer paper and let them paint over the leaves with orange or brown paint.  When the paint dries, I take the leaves off and it leaves the outline of the leaves on the paper.

My kids love anything that has to do with paint and they enjoyed looking for their own leaves.

Play Dough Pumpkin Mats

All you need is a template of a pumpkin, a laminator and play dough.

I print the pumpkin template and then I laminate one for each child.  I give them play dough and they can decorate their pumpkin with it.  Since it is laminated you can use this over and over for every Halloween.

It’s a very simple thing,  but the kids love play dough.

Homemade Jack O Lantern Match

All you need is and a laminator.

I print off the Jack O Lantern templates, then laminate them.  I then cut them in half.  The kids have to match the faces together.

Carving a pumpkin

Back in the day when I was courageous I let each kid carve a little pumpkin, I got stuck carving six pumpkins, very time consuming.  So now I just get a big pumpkin and let each child pull out the insides.  Then I carve the pumpkin and put a candle inside to show them how to make a Jack O Lantern.

Most kids did not like the feel of the pumpkin.  When you are doing this, they get to use the five senses and you can talk about each of them as you are doing this activity.  It is very educational.

These are just a few ideas, we do so much more.

The kids also enjoy watching the Nightmare Before Christmas, and listening to Halloween music.  Love, Love Halloween.
